what’s this look about?
it was about winter yearning for spring, like a cactus in a terrarium.
what inspires you as an artist?
texture, details...tiny, tiny details...subtext and the people around me.
what about film?
i really like the aesthetic of wes anderson. i think it's very painterly and beautiful. i really like nature documentaries that are well done. one that i really like is home . just the way it’s shot is like very realistic paintings of nature. it's free, you can see it on youtube. it's an hour and a half of like, where the planet goes to. actually a lot of fashion brands put money into making it happen. i really like the artist that created where’s waldo-i don’t remember his name-i love him. i think he was a genius. i really like an interactive component in visual stuff.
do you have a favorite period in fashion?
i actually really like the nerdy 50s. the really nerdy side of it. i kind of love the aesthetic of cry baby, how it gets both sides of the 50s - the punky and nerdy. i love how it’s mish-mashed together. i always said that if i ever do drag, i want to be the girl (amy locane) and do the performance of “please mr. jailer,” when she’s on the car.
